The Patriarchs in the Old Testament Book of Genesis reveal the origin story of God’s people and the covenant that God established with the Israelites. The term “Patriarch” comes from the root word meaning “father.” The Patriarchs were the fathers of God’s people. Likewise, the Matriarchs (Sarah, Rebekah, Leah, and Rachel) are the mothers of God’s people and the ancestors to the Twelve Tribes of Israel.
